Welcome to The Arc of the Emerald Coast

Our Mission:

“To provide a path from disability to capability.”

Horizons was founded in 1992 and is an affiliate of The Arc of the United States, the world’s largest grassroots advocacy organization for citizens of all ages with cognitive, intellectual, and developmental disabilities, and their families. June 2015 Horizons of Okaloosa County changed its name to The Arc of the Emerald Coast.

The Arc of the Emerald Coast provides services in Okaloosa and Walton Counties.  We provide services that work to include all children and adults with cognitive, intellectual, and developmental disabilities in every community. We also focus on abilities, respect, choice for all and encourage active citizenship and inclusion in every community.

  • One of every ten families in America has a member with an intellectual and developmental disability.
  • There are more than 7.5 million people in the U.S. with an intellectual and developmental disability.
  • Cognitive/intellectual disability is a condition, not a disease.

Our Vision:

Empowering those with developmental disabilities to live meaningful lives.

Our Values:

Inspiration:        Cultivate a culture of hope

Protection:         Advocate for those who cannot do so for themselves

Creativity:          Think outside the box to create individualized solutions

Excellence:        Earn the reputation of a premium community resource

Respect:             Recognize the dignity and worth of all

Empathy:           Embrace diversity and value people as individuals

The Arc of the Emerald Coast supports its mission “From Disability to Capability” by hosting and benefiting from various events throughout the year. Our Inaugural “MOON WALK” is taking place on Wednesday, Nov. 5th.  to shine a light on awareness and advocacy for individuals with disabilities and the clients of The Arc of the Emerald Coast.

This inaugural, one-night-only celebration kicks off at 6:00 PM at Freedom Tech Center in Fort Walton Beach and supports children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Everyone is invited to join this community-wide, glow-filled evening featuring participants walking the track in vibrant, glow-in-the-dark attire, interactive games, live music, and a breathtaking Supermoon overhead. 🌕

The Moon Walk is about more than fun—it’s about walking for those who cannot always walk for themselves. It’s a chance to bring together people of all ages and backgrounds, alongside some of our area’s most impactful nonprofits, community vendors, special guests, and more.

Proceeds from the evening will directly support the mission and programs of The Arc of the Emerald Coast—helping us continue building pathways from disability to capability.
